BSOM262: You Can Receive More of the Holy Spirit [Audio & Video]
“He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart shall flow rivers of living water.” By this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believe in Him would receive. For the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.” (John 7:38-39, MEV)
Do you want more of the Holy Spirit in your life?
In John 4:13-14, Jesus spoke to the woman of Samaria about a well. This pertains to the work of the Holy Spirit in salvation. But in John 7, He speaks of a river. There is a difference between a well and a river. The substance is the same (the Holy Spirit) but there is a difference in volume. A well will sustain your household, a river will sustain a city or a region. A river has power to provide electricity, too.
This Bible study, which was prepared for Gospel Tabernacle Evangelical Church in Highbridge, Somerset, England, will give you the biblical basis and practical steps to receiving more of the Holy Spirit in your life.

Notes: You Can Receive More of the Holy Spirit
A well of salvation
“Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water that I shall give him will become in him a well of water springing up into eternal life.”” (John 4:13-14, MEV)
Rivers of water
“He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart shall flow rivers of living water.” By this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believe in Him would receive. For the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.” (John 7:38-39, MEV)
Some would say that when we are born again we have all the Holy Spirit we going to get, but that is not scriptural.
John 3:34 God did not give Jesus the Spirit by measure.
Eph. 3:19 Paul prayed that we would be filled with the fulness of God. If there is a fulness, there must also be a less than full.
2 Kings 2:9 Elisha asked for a double portion of Elijah’s spirit.
Eze 47 speaks of a wading out into a river ankle deep, knee deep, waste deep, and then waters to swim in, waters that could not be passed over.
The Holy Spirit in salvation:
“When He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” (John 20:22, MEV)
The Baptism (immersion) of the Holy Spirit
“And look, I am sending the promise of My Father upon you. But wait in the city of Jerusalem until you are clothed with power from on high.”” (Luke 24:49, MEV)
Waiting for the Promise
“Being assembled with them, He commanded them, “Do not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, of which you have heard from Me. For John baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”” (Acts 1:4-5, MEV)
Apostles pray for saved people to receive the Holy Spirit
“Samaritans Receive the Holy Spirit
Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them. When they came down, they prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit, for still He had come on none of them. They were only baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.” (Acts 8:14-16, MEV)
The Early Church was Refilled
On being released, they went to their own people and reported what the chief priests and elders had said to them. When they heard this, they lifted their voices in unity to God and prayed, “Lord, You are God, who has made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything in them, and who by the mouth of Your servant David said: ”Why did the nations rage, and the people devise vain things? The kings of the earth came, and the rulers were assembled together against the Lord and against His Christ. Indeed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, were assembled together against Your holy Son Jesus whom You have anointed,to do what Your hand and Your counsel had foreordained to be done. Now, Lord, look on their threats and grant that Your servants may speak Your word with great boldness, by stretching out Your hand to heal and that signs and wonders may be performed in the name of Your holy Son Jesus. ”When they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with boldness.” (Acts 4:23-31, MEV)
These believers were previously filled with the Spriit, but now they were refilled. When you are going through difficulties, it’s a good time to earnestly turn to the Lord and request a fresh refill of the Holy Spirit. He will hear your prayers and move mightily on your behalf.
Be being filled with the Spirit
“Do not be drunk with wine, for that is reckless living. But be filled with the Spirit.” (Ephesians 5:18, MEV)
Amplified …but ever be filled and stimulated by the Holy Spirit.
Gr. be being filled.
