The Impossible is Totally Possible!
By Tom Shanklin
“Ah Lord GOD! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee:” Jeremiah 32:17, KJV.
Sometimes we need to be reminded just how great our God is!
Jeremiah seems to be awestruck and overwhelmed by the majesty of God’s power. “Ah Lord God, THOU has made the heavens… NOTHING, NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING is too difficult for THEE.”
This is no wimpy God! This is no statue or lifeless idol. This is the ALMIGHTY GOD who created the universe. Isaiah tells us, “It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:” Isaiah 40:22, KJV. When this was written, people did not know that the earth was round, but the prophet says, “He sitteth on the circle of the earth…”
He stretches out the heavens like a curtain and spreads them out like a tent. Scientists tell us that the universe is at least 92 million light years across, and yet the Bible says that when God created the stars, He set them up like we would put up a pup tent. That is how great and mighty He is. Our God is a BIG GOD! That is why the prophet said, “…nothing is too hard for thee.” There is no problem too big, no mountain too high, no river too deep for our God. Nothing is too hard for our great Creator God.

For many people, Christianity has become a religious tradition or a philosophical system, but we need to realize that what it’s all about is a supernatural relationship with the Almighty God who created the universe. As Jesus said, “And this is life eternal, that they might KNOW thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” John 17:3, KJV.
It’s about knowing God. Knowing Jesus. Knowing the Creator. The scripture says, “Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth…” Ecclesiastes 12:1, KJV. He’s not just an influence. He’s not a grandpa in the sky with a big beard. He’s the CREATOR! Remember Him! “…the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.” Hebrews 11:3, KJV. And right now, Jesus is “upholding all things by the word of his power…” (Heb. 1.3) How do all those planets and moons and stars stay just where they belong? Jesus is upholding them with the word of His power. In other words, He tells the planets what to do, and they do it. He created the universe and He sustains the universe and He commands the universe!
This is why the prophet could say, “Nothing is too difficult for thee!” If He created it and set it in order and keeps it in order, then He can change it, or fix, or heal it as needed. He’s in control!
The Scripture says, “Give thanks unto the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people. Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him, talk ye of all his wondrous works.” 1 Chronicles 16:8, 9, KJV. Yes, talk about what He has done. Magnify His name. Make known His deeds among the people.
The Day the Sun and Moon Stayed Still
One definition of a miracle is the interruption of the natural course of nature. One day Joshua and the children of Israel were in the heat of the battle with the enemies of the Lord. Under God’s orders, Joshua proceeded. But the sun was going down and it looked as if the enemy would escape. “Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon. And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.” Joshua 10:12, 13, KJV.
Someone says, “Oh, that’s just a story.” No, that’s the Holy Word of God. That’s the Gospel truth. Joshua, God’s representative, told the sun and moon to stand still and it did…for a whole day. Yep, that’s exactly what happened.
So, how did that happen? Well, we know that the sun goes up and down because of the rotation of the earth. So, it would seem, the earth STOPPED SPINNING at the word of Joshua. You say, how could that happen? Jesus upholds all things by the Word of His power. So, the same word that causes the earth to spin can also cause it to stop spinning. This is how miracles happen and this is why the impossible is totally possible.
Another time, in order to prove to Hezekiah that God had healed him, Isaiah prophesied that the sun dial would go in reverse 10 degrees, and it did. Another time, Elisha threw a stick in the water, and an axe head floated. Another time, both Elijah and Elisha raised children from the dead. Another time, Jesus walked on water. Another time, Jesus multiplied the fishes and loaves. Another time, Peter’s shadow healed the sick. Another time… Suddenly, the impossible became totally possible.
What about you? Do you need a miracle? Remember your Creator!
Do you need a healing in your body? Remember your Creator!
Do you need your children to come back to God? Remember your Creator!
Do you need deliverance from a powerful habit? Remember your Creator!
Do you need a miracle in your finances? Remember your Creator! He can heal your body. He can change your heart. He can set you free!
The World’s Greatest Miracle!
David cried to the Lord after He has sinned with Bathsheba, “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” Psalms 51:10, KJV. The Creator can do that. He can make an impure heart clean. He can renew a right spirit in you.
This is the greatest miracle of all—when God changes a human heart. The Bible says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a NEW CREATURE: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17, KJV. This is not a metaphor or a religious cliche. This is a spiritual reality. When a person surrenders their life to Jesus and trusts in the work of the cross for their salvation, they are literally “born again.” They are CREATED in Christ Jesus unto good works. (Eph. 2.10) This is the great work of the Creator. And this is what becoming a Christian is all about.
I don’t know about you, but I want everything that my Creator has for me. I want peace. I want holiness. I want health. I want divine life. I want my family walking in divine revelation and light. I want to carry His glory to the nations and “talk ye of all his wondrous works.” I want to see Jesus…and help others to see Him too.
Miracles Require Human Cooperation
One thing I’ve noticed about all the miracles in the Bible, as we have said, every one of them involved the great power of the great Creator God. But one other thing was also required—a human being. What is needed to produce a miracle is a human being with two feet on the earth who will take God at His Word and do what He said to do.
Whenever we see a miracle in the Bible, we see somebody taking action upon God’s Word. Somebody walked around Jericho for seven days. Somebody dipped in the river Jordan. Somebody said, “In the name of Jesus rise up and walk.”
It’s the same today! Somebody answered an altar call and was born again. Somebody laid hands on the sick and they recovered. Somebody spoke a word of faith and circumstances changed. In every miracle, there’s a God-ward side and there’s a man-ward side. God does His part, and we must do ours.
So, take God at His Word. Be a believing believer and speak and act upon His word. You can do that, because God created you to do that. You have that capacity—the capacity to believe, the capacity to speak in faith, and the capacity to act in faith.
I Believe in Miracles!
I remember when I was a very young and inexperienced pastor in northern Minnesota, a woman named Arlene Andersen spoke to me before a Sunday service about her husband. “Pastor Tom, Marvin is in so much pain today. He’s hurting so bad,” she said.
“Oh, Arlene,” I said, “I feel so bad about that. I am so sorry.” It was the furthest thing in my mind to pray for him or minister to him. Actually, my mind was focused on the sermon I was about to deliver…on faith.
But while I was delivering the message, all of a sudden it was as if the Holy Spirit took hold of my head and turned it towards Marvin. And I said, “OH, MARVIN, we’ve got to pray for you NOW! RIGHT NOW!” So I went over to where he was sitting and knelt down and asked the congregation to agree with me as I ministered healing. It wasn’t a long prayer as I remember it, but there was a power that went with it and just a confidence that the problem was taken care of.
When I got back to the pulpit, I looked at Marvin and he said, “The pain is gone!” And we all began to praise the Almighty God who does such things. About eight years later, I talked to Marvin on the phone and he told me that the pain had never come back but that he was totally free from that day in church in the community center.
Marvin has since gone to be with the Lord, but recently I was talking with his son, Doug. Previous to this, my understanding of Marvin’s healing was he had been healed from a torn ligament or tendon. I thought he had slipped and pulled something in his leg and from time to time it was causing him pain.
But when I talked to his son last fall, I learned the rest of the story. Marvin’s pain actually came from an injury he sustained while loading potatoes into a building with a conveyer which ran off of the power take off (PTO) of a tractor. Marvin’s trousers got caught in the PTO which began to spin him around. Doug told me that Marvin’s strength was so great that he was able to stop the PTO and the tractor stalled. Otherwise, Marvin would have likely died in the mishap. However, before the tractor stalled, the PTO had literally pulled the flesh off the bone of his leg. The doctors tried to patch him up the best they could, but from that day, Marvin suffered excruciating pain in his leg. But one day in a church service in a community center in Twin Valley, Minnesota, all that changed. The Creator recreated. He fixed that which was wrong. He interrupted the natural course of nature and did a miracle.
So just remember, whatever you’re going through, no matter how difficult the problem or insurmountable the obstacle, nothing is too difficult for God. The impossible is totally possible!
