BSOM261: The Holy Spirit Our Helper [Audio & Video]
One of the most profound and amazing truths from the New Testament is that the God of the universe has committed Himself to be our Helper.
When Jesus was preparing His disciples for His departure, He told them, “If you love Me, keep My commandments. I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Counselor, that He may be with you forever: the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, for it does not see Him, neither does it know Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you, and will be in you. I will not leave you fatherless. I will come to you.” (John 14:15-18, MEV)
The Greek word translated “Counselor” here, is ‘parakletos,” meaning “one called along side to help.” The Holy Spirit, who is God and who is the third person of the Trinity, is called along side to help you and me. What an awesome truth!
In this Bible Study, which was prepared for Gospel Tabernacle Evangelical Church in Highbridge, Sommerset, England, we look at the different ways that the Holy Spirit helps us. He gives us strength, wisdom, guidance, and so much more. Enjoy this message and enjoy all the benefits of the Holy Spirit which belong to every believer in Christ Jesus.

God has promised to be our helper. The Holy Spirit is how He does it.
God is our refuge and strength, a well–proven help in trouble.” (Psalms 46:1, MEV)

Sometimes we think of the Holy Spirit as a gentle influence, but we need to realize that the Holy Spirit brought for the Creation when the Word was spoken, raised Jesus from the dead, and makes the lame to walk and the blind to see. So when he says “strengthener,” that is a powerful thing. But sometimes what we need is comfort, or guidance, or intercession. He is the provider of what you need from God in every situation of your life.
The Holy Spirit always works in coordination with God’s Word. If we agree with God’s Word, we are enlisting the help of the Holy Spirit. It we disagree with God’s Word we are rejecting the help of the Holy Spirit. “If you love me, keep my commandments, and I will pray the Father and he will give you another comforter.” So it starts with surrendering our will and finds its fulfillment in a walk of obedience.
