Susan: Looking for a Better Year!
As I write this, it’s only December 16, 2020, just a spit over two weeks to the new year. Yahoooooo.
I always ask my little grandkids how they feel the day or week after their birthdays. For example, Athena, who just turned 6:
“So Athena, do you feel any different than when you were 5?” I ask. She looks a little perplexed and shakes her head, “No.”
In just two more weeks, it will be a new year, and it may not seem much different than the year or day before.
My curtains are the same. We eat eggs for breakfast, just like we ate last year. Ha.
So methinks, how is this a different year? How can I make this year different than LAST year?
How can I NOT repeat the year 2020 again? Is this all there is to life? A revolving door, so to speak? Goodness, I would rather be on an escalator than in a revolving door.
When I would visit the hospital clinic after my toe surgery, they have these massive, revolving glass and metal doors. These you don’t push, but they are automated. They must have a sensor somewhere, and just as you step into the pie-wedge, it starts to turn. Holy Moly. ?????? You got to be quick!
You see, I have this fear of being crushed by a mindless machine turning and turning. What if I trip or my scarf gets caught.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!
That is what repeating the last year would be like. I just want to jump out and let last year go by.
I want to begin a new journey to a new future.
Now is the time to get on the escalator. Make sure you get on the RIGHT escalator. Some go up, and some go down, but some are level like the ones in the airports.
I love those flat escalators. I don’t think I have ever gotten to a gate near the beginning of the airport. NO! We always seem to be directed to the opposite-end-of-the-universe gate. You are usually carrying 40 pounds in your purse and backpack and walking in a quick mode that is so draining and exhausting. But if they have the flat escalators, HEAVEN!
These babies aren’t too slow, and they have an end so people can depart every so often.
Watch out! Be prepared, or you will land on your face and 10 people behind you will fall on top of you!
Heads up, people! Life doesn’t stop for nobody. If you fall down, not too many people want to stop and help you up. Some may even walk on you and be on their way. Ouch!
When you read this, you may have eaten your eggs already and put on the same pants as yesterday. But it’s up to each of us how we are going to walk in them.
The Holy Spirit has the best plan for the day. Tune in to His thoughts and words. Tune in to goodness, not badness. Light overcomes the darkness, not the other way around.
So I ask you, how do you feel today? Do you feel the same as last year?
I do believe, with all my heart, this year is the best to come. I’m going to get on the escalator and watch out for any pitfalls. I’m going for the top of the mountain. I’m going to let the warmth of the shining God drizzle all over me like a hot fudge sundae. I’m going to embrace His love and give it right back to the world for whoever wants it.
Yep, you just wait and see. Next year we will say, “2021 was a very good year!”
