Notes: OVERCOMING GUILT AND CONDEMNATION
Christian or non-Christian. Maybe it’s something from before you became a Christian. Maybe it’s a personal failure, a broken relationship, a destructive habit, pain you have caused others.
Reading: Jn 8:1-12
Text: “Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more.” (John 8:11, MEV)
MT Jesus is not a condemner, He is a Savior.
Condemnation (katakrino) to give judgment against. To Judge worthy of punishment. Difference between conmemnation and conviction. Conviction is essentially bringing to light an error or sin. Conviction is good because it shows you that you need forgiveness and change.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. (John 3:16-17, MEV)
“Truly, truly I say to you, whoever hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has eternal life and shall not come into condemnation, but has passed from death into life. (John 5:24, MEV)
HOW TO OVERCOME CONDEMNATION
- You must be born again. (John 3:7)
- You must receive your forgiveness. (Romans 8:16) No matter how many Pharisees say that you’re condemned, it Jesus says you are forgiven, you are forgiven.
