New Thinking for a New Year!
“Do not remember the former things nor consider the things of old. See, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not be aware of it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” (Isaiah 43:18-19, MEV)
God wants to do something new and fresh in 2021. But in order to move forward with what He has for us, we need new thinking for a new year.
We have such a tendency to be stuck in the past, traipsing around the same old circles over and over again without change. We need to be willing to move with God to enter into our destiny. We must have some fresh thinking to usher in a fresh anointing.
It’s time for new paths and a new anointing. Let the river flow in a fresh new way.
Behold, I do a new thing. It’s time to embrace the freedom, restoration … and the challenges of the new season. God says, “I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” It’s time for new paths and a new anointing. Let the river flow in a fresh new way.
Get Out of the Rut
God never intended for us to stay in the same old rut. He calls for transformation, growth, and progress. This is what the Christian life is about. “Therefore, if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature. Old things have passed away. Look, all things have become new.” (2Corinthians 5:17, MEV)
The cross of Christ means old things are passed away. The resurrection means all things have become new. It’s time to let go of the old and embrace the new!
After we come to Jesus, we must be transformed by the renewing of our minds to embrace this new life. We must let go of the sin, guilt, and shame of the past and embrace a new life of freedom in Christ. Then the anointing will flow!
I remember a time many years ago, the Lord said to me, “Destroy not the anointing!” I knew it was a warning, so I asked Him, “How do you destroy the anointing?” He then said, “The natural thinking of the natural man.”
All you have to do to destroy the anointing in your life is to think like everyone else. And if you and I want to embrace what God has for us in 2021, we cannot think as we did in 2020. We need fresh manna, fresh revelation, and a fresh anointing. We must have an “all things are possible” mentality. We must agree with God and His Word in this hour. We must take the limits off and believe God for greater things.
A Time of Transition
In our theme scripture, Isaiah was preparing Israel for a transition. They had been enduring a season of judgment and captivity in Babylon, but God now was preparing them for a new season of forgiveness, blessing, restoration, and refreshing. It was not a time to live in the bondage of the old things, but to flow with God in the new thing He was doing.
I believe that 2021 is a time of transition for many of us. It’s a time for greater miracles. It’s time for our ministries to come into a new level of power and effectiveness. It’s time to take more territory and expand the Kingdom of God.
I believe that 2021 is a time of transition for many of us. It’s a time for greater miracles. It’s time for our ministries to come into a new level of power and effectiveness. It’s time to take more territory and expand the Kingdom of God.
We see many transitions in the Bible. In Acts 13, we see a transition for Paul, who went from being a Bible teacher in the church in Antioch to an apostle to the nations. But one of the most dramatic transitions of all is that of Elisha.
When God instructed Elijah to anoint Elisha as a prophet in his place, Elijah went out into the field where Elisha was plowing and threw his mantle over his shoulder. Elisha then killed the oxen he was plowing with and burned up his plow. He left his old life behind to follow Elisha and to become His servant. This is a picture of us leaving the old life to follow Jesus.
As God was about to take Elijah from the scene by a whirlwind and chariot of fire, Elisha refused to leave him, following him closely every step of the way. But I want you to notice what Elisha did when God took his master to heaven, “Then he grabbed his own clothes and tore them into two pieces. He picked up the robe [mantle, KJV] of Elijah that fell from him, and he returned and stood on the bank of the Jordan. And he took the robe of Elijah that fell from him, and struck the water, and said, “Where is the LORD, God of Elijah?” When he had struck the water, it parted from one side to the other, and Elisha crossed over.” (2 Kings 2:13-14, MEV)
Thus began the miracle ministry of Elisha.
As Elisha was about to move into His destiny as a prophet in the place of Elijah, he tore his clothes in two. He let go of the old to take hold of the new. Likewise, I believe it’s time for us to let go of the old, and embrace the new. It’s time to say, “Where is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ?” and then to begin to step out and do the works of Jesus.
Elisha’s request was for a double portion of Elijah’s spirit. Interestingly, the Bible records twice as many miracles in the life of Elisha as in the life of Elijah. It’s the time for us, too, to believe God for greater works and greater miracles.
Where is the God of the Apostle Peter, who raised the dead? Where is the God of Smith Wigglesworth, Kathryn Kuhlman, and Oral Roberts? God says, “Right here!” and He will continue to confirm his word with signs following as we go forth preaching His Word.
Embrace Change!
If God is speaking change into your life, don’t resist. Go with it! As the scripture says, “Because they do not change, therefore they do not fear God.” (Psalms 55:19, MEV)

Israel missed God because they saw themselves as grasshoppers and the residents of the promised land like giants. They believed in the opposition more than the promise of God and ended up walking in circles in the wilderness for 40 years until they died.
I choose NOT to be like them. I choose to climb new mountains and reach new heights. I choose to reach more people with this glorious Gospel and take new territory for the Kingdom of God. I choose to keep moving with God and to lay hold of all He has for me in this hour.
Leave the past behind and move into your destiny, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
