More Nepal Villages Helped through Relief Effort
By Tom Shanklin
We received the following report from Bible Living Ministries, who we have been partnering with to bring help to those devastated by the April 25th earthquake, and subsequent quakes. We are so happy to hear that God’s people are busy bringing help and the love of Christ in their nation and we are blessed to have a small part in this effort with the help of our partners.
As of 31 May it is confirmed a total 488,789 houses have been destroyed and 267,477 are damaged. The death toll has increased to 8,604 both by the earthquakes on the 25th April and 12 May 2015. The
total number of injured is 17,866, and 366 people were still missing. According to the National Emergency Operations Center estimated that more than 10% of the country’s homes were destroyed or damaged. All over the 14 affected districts are facing lots of landslide now. During monsoon, there will be more damage due to the landslide. At present, Zinc sheets for roof and quality shelter is in demand in Dhading where we are continually trying to help the earthquake victims.
We focused on 3 villages of 2 different districts; one is Dhading which is about 100 km west north to Kathmandu. Klangmrang village from Jharlang VDC and Tajimrang from Ree VDC were our relief work communities where 90% houses are completely destroyed and about 45 people dead. We targeted to Klangmrang village because we have a house Church and Tajimrang is nearby village where we are praying to plant another house church.
Sindhupalchok is another district which is about 120 km eastern north to Kathmandu. Thokarpa is south east VDC where there a small village call Purnebari. This village also known as Dalit village because almost all people are belong to dalit cast. We do not know why these people could not get any relief goods though many organizations had distributed around there but our team was told about it and went to survey there and found that they have not received any thing and living without food so we went again and distributed relief goods to them. No one in this village is Christian.
Distribution of Relief Supplies:
Area Coverage: We were able to cover 4 villages, 313 households approximately 1,618 people with our relief goods. While distributing the relief goods among these places we also ministered to 4 churches those are located there.
