Mission to Canada, Northern Minnesota and Western Minnesota [Ministry Update]
By Tom Shanklin
And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen. (Mark 16.20, NKJV)
I am so blessed to be a part of God’s plan to reach the world! Everywhere we go, the Lord continues to confirm His Word with signs following. Sometimes it’s people finding peace with God. Other times it’s physical or emotional healing, but it’s always the Lord who does the work that only He can do. Our part is to preach the message of the cross and resurrection, and to give people an opportunity to receive from Him. He does the rest.
In August, I spoke at a Unity Service in Ft. Francis, Ontario, Canada, where Christians from Minnesota and the Rainy River District of Ontario joined forces to pray for their region and their nations. I spoke on “Prayer and Evangelism,” emphasizing that we need a marriage of prayer and evangelism to have results. We cannot just pray, we must put legs to our prayers and get out and proclaim the Word of God. On the other side of it, we must pray for the release of power to effectively evangelize the world. It was a great joy to meet with our neighbors to the north and pray!
I had a wonderful time with the saints of Lindford Christian Fellowship in Littlefork, Minnesota, who are stationed in the northwoods of Minnesota near International Falls. Though the climate is frigid, Pastors Randy and Donna Barstad and the congregation are keeping the Gospel fires burning amidst the forests and streams of northern Minnesota. I preached a Gospel message on the “Mighty Name of Jesus.” There were manifestations of healing and much joy in the house.
At Church of Living Water in the border town of Baudette on the massive Lake of the Woods, I spoke on “Jesus Christ Makes You Whole,” a message on the Gospel for the whole person—spirit, soul, and body. About 10 people came forward for prayer for brokenness inside and were obviously touched. There were also manifestations of physical healing, and I had some of the believers do the work of laying on of hands for healing the sick.
From there I traveled with Pastors Dave and Mary Lee Gens of Baudette to preach the Gospel for three nights at PTL Rock Church on the Red Lake Indian Reservation in Redby, Minnesota, which is led by Pastor Josephine Smith. Three people made decisions to follow Jesus as Lord and Savior, and the Lord healed several people. One lady who had pain in her back and hands testified that she was completely pain-free. Another lady with headaches since 2004 due to brain surgery said her pain was completely gone. You can see the healing testimonies on the Tom Shanklin Ministries YouTube Channel.
I also had a refreshing and joyful time at a Bible Study at the Christian Lending Library at Bagley, in northern Minnesota. I shared some video healing testimonies and once again spoke on “Jesus Christ Makes You Whole.” I also had a word of prophecy about finding liberty by walking in love. Everyone, including me, was encouraged!
I also had a great time at a Lutheran/Baptist Bible Study at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Waskish, in northern Minnesota. Pastor Dave Gens preaches at the Waskish Baptist Church on Sundays. On Wednesdays, the two churches in town come together for a Bible Study. They had many questions for me concerning miracles and divine healing. I also shared a Bible study with them on the book of Romans (the Romans Road) and led everyone in a prayer of salvation. I encouraged them that these were scriptures that they could use to lead others to Christ.
From there I traveled to Hendricks, Minnesota, where we had our Prairie Fires Men’s Advance, with partipants from age 11 to over 80. What a blessing! I spoke on “God’s Men,” emphasizing the fact that we belong to the Lord, and have been called to a life of holiness. Several men prayed for forgiveness of sin. In the afternoon session, the pastors in attendance shared words of encouragement and I spoke on “Men and Relationships,” sharing about our relationships with our wives, our children, and friends. I also shared about spiritual fathering and the vital relationships we have in the Church.
While in Hendricks, I also spoke at Faith Family Christian Center with Pastors Chris and Joyce Caugherty. The Lord surprised me by leading me to speak on “Jesus is Coming Back. Are You Ready?” I believe that the Lord is calling the Church back into an emphasis on eternal things, in preparation for Jesus’ second coming. After the message, we prayed for needs and Bonnie Guza was filled with joy after the Lord removed the pain from her hip. We heard a report later in the week that her pain, which had been severe, we completely gone. Praise the Lord!
Harvest World Evangelism Conference October 13-15
I cannot emphasize enough how much I would love to see you at our Harvest Evangelism Conference in Mankato, Minnesota on Oct. 13-15. This is going to be a great gathering of friends, partners, and co-laborers with this ministry.
The theme is “Sending Laborers to the Harvest.” There will be an emphasis on responding to the call of God to reach the lost in the U.S. and around the world. We will have international, regional and local speakers, great worship, and wonderful fellowship. If at all possible, please plan to attend. We are thrilled that three of the six missionaries we regularly support will be at the conference.
Stan and Sarah Strunc, who we work with in the United Kingdom, will be our special guest speakers. Other speakers include Tom and Susan Shanklin, Pastor Bob Holmbeck of Gaylord, Pastor Jerry David of Mankato, a missionary we support from an Asian nation, and Kim Ellison of Blaine, who will also lead worship.
