Ministry Update: Ready to Preach!
So, as much as is in me, I am ready to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome. (Romans 1:15, MEV)
As I read this scripture, I picture the apostle “chomping at the bit” to preach the Gospel in Rome. It seemed that he had a desire for a long time to preach there but had been hindered by circumstances.
Similarly, we have been hindered by a worldwide pandemic. We’ve continued to preach by YouTube, Zoom, Phone, and the written word, but we have missed the opportunities to preach the Gospel to real live humans. But now, as doors are opening, we are thrilled at the opportunities to proclaim this glorious message of salvation in person.
July was a busy month, with meetings in Wisconsin, North Dakota, Minnesota, and even one opportunity nearby.
Susan and I both shared at a meeting sponsored by area Christians in the city of Janesville, near our home. Tents were set up. Hot dogs were prepared. Worship filled the air, and the Gospel was proclaimed. It was part of a movement called Awaken the Dawn, which is bringing worship and the Gospel message to cities and towns around America.
I ministered at Trinity Fellowship in Rice Lake, Wisconsin, a church that is made up of about 50 percent ex-Amish people. I spoke on Jacob and the changes that came in his life when he wrestled with God. The basic message was, “You will prevail with God when God prevails with you. So, let Him have His way!” About 10 people came to the altar to express their desire to yield their lives to God.
Susan and I visited the Country Church in Ruthton for the first since their pastor, Rich DeRuyter, went home to be with the Lord. I preached on “You Have a Bright Future,’ words with paralleled the last words which Pastor Rich spoke to me.
I preached the Gospel in a Tent Revival at Pine Point, Minnesota, on the White Earth Indian Reservation. I spoke on “It’s Time to Be Healed,” from the story of Jesus healing the man at the pool of Bethesda. Don’t sit around waiting for the waters to stir. Jesus has paid the price for your healing. Rise up and be healed in the name of Jesus.
I returned to Pine Point early in August to teach in a new Bible School, which is being established by missionary Karen Brakefield. They are using our Believers School of Ministry material.
From Pine Point, I traveled on to Devils Lake, North Dakota, for an amazing three-day revival in the Westminster Presbyterian Church. This was my first time to preach in a Presbyterian church, and it was marvelous. There was healing, salvation, and great joy. It was truly a time of refreshing for all of us! At least 11 churches were represented at the meetings. You can read more about it from two of the pastors below.

More to Come!
On August 14-15, we will be holding an open-air meeting in the city park at Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, called “Love DL.” I really need your prayers for this and welcome your financial support if you are led. This is a new venture for us. Pray that the Christians of that city and area will invite their friends to come to enjoy the music and hear a message of God’s love through Jesus Christ that will change them. Learn more about Love DL>>>
Susan and I are so thankful for your friendship, partnership, and prayers. Together we are making a difference in the U.S. and around the world. We are praying for your crops (if you have crops), your well-being, your family, and your walk with God.
What Does Revival Look Like?
By Pastor Trudy Dumont, Westminister Presbyterian Church
“Repent, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord” (Acts 3:19-20)
What does “Revival” look like? We all want it. We all yearn for it. We all pray for it. But what does Revival “look” like? Is it Large? Is it Small? Is it Big? Is it Tall? Is it in a silent nod of reconciliation, received across a room, from those to whom we were estranged? Is it in the fervor to hand out flyers and posters to advertise a church event just because you want people to come to know God in a more intimate way?
Is it in a hunger and thirst for the Word of God, which no electrolyte replacement can ever quench? What exactly does Revival look like? I’d like to venture that the answer is “Yes,” “Yes,” “Yes,” “Yes,” “Yes,” “Yes,” and “Yes!” Amen and Amen and Amen!!
I believe that a Holy Spirit move of God, to bring times of refreshing in a drought-parched and weary land, looks like ALL of these things. Big — and small. And that’s exactly what we all experienced during Tom Shanklin’s “Revive” meetings in Webster and Devils Lake, ND, on July 25-27. People were healed. People were saved. People were set free. And people from eleven different churches nestled into a closer relationship with the God who loves them to the uttermost.
One of the hallmarks of a great Spirit-filled meeting — is that no one wants to leave! We stayed, and stayed, and stayed — in little groups, praying, long after the Services were over. We all wanted to stay and soak in the Holy Spirit’s love and forgiveness provided by Jesus Christ as he hung on Calvary’s Cross.
God, our Father, longs for our companionship and pours out His Spirit on us to refresh us. And that’s exactly what happened in the Devils Lake Region. Thanks be to God! And thanks for Tom’s availability to come and bring God’s Word!
God is Changing Hearts
By Pastor Rob Buechler, Trinity-Bergen Lutheran Church, Starkweather, North Dakota
Hey brother. I want you to know that people are still talking about last night. I have been thinking about how to put all that happened into words. I believe that I have never heard you preach with more anointing than last night and the night before. God was really speaking and changing hearts. The people at the Presbyterian church were literally in awe of God and truly moved by the message. Jesus is fulfilling His word about revival and it was so wonderful to see pastors getting together. Blessings brother. You are being used by the Holy Spirit for something special up here!
