Ministering at Gaylord Assembly of God
Last Sunday, Susan and I were at Gaylord Assembly of God, Gaylord, Minnesota, with Pastor Bob and Judy Holmbeck. This is one of the churches where we enjoy a close relationship. Last year, we were with them in December also, so it’s almost a tradition. It’s a good time to ask a prayerful, encouraging church to pray for us in the coming year.
I preached on “Birthing a Miracle,” about the virgin birth and what it means to us. This is one of God’s great signs and wonders, the birth of Jesus through the virgin Mary. Actually, Jesus came to start a whole new race of people, who He has called to be partakers of the divine nature. The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Because of Him, we are able to become children of God, and new creatures in Christ.
It was a wonderful time of fellowship, ministry in the Word and prayer. Several people came forward to get right with God and quite a few others came forward for miracles in their lives, about 15-20 people in all.
Pastor Bob, besides being a good friend and supportive pastor for us, also has a tremendous ministry in the Gaylord community. He serves as chaplain in the county jail, and his church has a vibrant ministry to the youth in the community. The church wins an award with their denomination for winning souls.
This year he had bypass heart surgery. By the grace of God though, he is doing well, and we are expecting him to have a long and fruitful time of life and ministry. The photo below, which was taken a couple years ago, is typical of Pastor Bob with the children, ever the teacher.
