Giving Thanks for the Victory!
“But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:57, KJV.
Thank God, the message of the Gospel is a message of victory!
The word victory means an act of defeating an enemy or opponent in a battle, game, or other competition. We are in a battle for sure, but thanks be to God, He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
When we face the challenges of life, we can feel weak, hopeless and defeated. That is when we need to remind ourselves that Jesus gives us the victory. As Christians, we have the upper hand. We have a God of victory who has made us more than conquerers. This all comes because of what Jesus Christ has done for us on the cross and through His resurrection.
As the Apostle Paul reminds us, “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:” 1 Corinthians 15:3, 4, KJV. This is the Gospel! He died. He was buried. He rose again. Death has no more power over Him … or over them who believe in Him. Sin was defeated at the cross. Death was defeated through the resurrection. We have the victory!
But not only do we have the victory over sin and death, we also have the victory over Satan and His cohorts. The Bible tells us that when Jesus rose from the dead, He “…spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.” Colossians 2:15, KJV. Today, Jesus is seated far above those dark powers and we are seated together with Him in heavenly prices. Jesus has won the victory and He has given that victory to us.
Our part is to receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior and to believe in what He did for us through the cross and resurrection. We are to have faith in the blood of Jesus for the forgiveness of all sin, and believe that God raised Him from the dead. Then His victory becomes our victory and we can say with the Apostle, “But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:57, KJV.
So now it is time to shout the victory! When the armies would go out to battle, they would shout. Likewise, we need to shout and sing with the voice of triumph. Our God has given us the victory! “O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph.” Psalms 47:1, KJV.
Happy Thanksgiving to all our friends celebrating here in the United States! May you have a great shout of victory at your Thanksgiving table this year!
A Thanksgiving Prayer
Dear Father, thank you for sending Jesus to die for my sins. Thank you for raising Him from the dead to defeat death and to give me the victory. I turn from sin and confess Jesus Christ is my Lord. I will follow Him in victory over all the plans of the enemy. Thank you for the victory in my life, in my family and in my ministry. And I give you glory for all these things, in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
