I’ve Been Set Free [Audio]
By Tom Shanklin
“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” John 8:36, KJV.
Before I came to Jesus I was a slave. Satan had me bound up in alcohol, sin and selfishness. But thank God, Jesus set me free. And He will set you free as well.
Jesus promises to make you “free indeed.” That means “no ifs ands or buts about it.” It comes from receiving Jesus as your Lord and Savior and then understanding from his Word how to walk in your freedom. The Bible is God’s emancipation proclamation. The Bible says, “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.” Romans 8:2, KJV.
As Christians, we are free!!! We just need to know it. The prison door is open, why are you still inside?
In this podcast you will learn:
- The major key that God used to set me free of alcohol and drugs.
- That your freedom has been bought and paid for.
- How to break free from addictions, depression, phobias, fear and other strongholds.
- What God’s gift of righteousness has to do with your freedom.
- That death and the fear of death has no power to enslave you.
Listen to this message and let your heart draw near to God. He will minister to you by His Holy Spirit and let you know that you are “free indeed.”

I’ve Been Set Free
READING: John 8:31-36
TEXT: “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” John 8:36, KJV.
MAIN THOUGHT: You can find freedom from addictions, phobias, depression, curses, sinful tendencies, and the fear of death through Jesus Christ.
Tom’s Testimony:
- A slave to sin
- Turn from the things of the world.
- Precious is the blood of the Lamb.
- I give you a new life, free from the bonds of iniquity.
“He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.” 1 John 3:8, KJV.
“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:10, KJV.
We are:
- Redeemed from Judgment to Righteousness
“But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.” Romans 3:21-26, KJV.
Picture: The slave market.
“Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.” Hebrews 9:12, KJV.
“In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;” Ephesians 1:7, KJV.
“Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;” Psalms 107:2, KJV.
“For thus saith the LORD, Ye have sold yourselves for nought; and ye shall be redeemed without money.” Isaiah 52:3, KJV.
You must be born again. John 3:7
2. Redeemed from the Curse of the Law to Sonship
“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” Galatians 3:13, 14, KJV.
“For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.” Romans 8:2, KJV.
“But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.” Galatians 4:4, 5, KJV.
3. Redeemed from Iniquity to Purity
“Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” Titus 2:14, KJV.
“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;” 1 Peter 1:18, KJV.
“For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:” Job 19:25, KJV.
Don’t life like a slave.
4. Redeemed from Death to Life
“Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:51-57, KJV.
CONCLUSION:
If you have not received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, receive Him now.
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” John 1:12, KJV.
And renew your mind to the truth.
“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:31, 32, KJV.
