Fourteen Receive Christ at Youth Camp
Kids at the Point Youth Camp near Hendricks, Minnesota, is sponsored by Faith Family Christian Center and held on the farm of Pastors Chris and Joyce Caugherty. When I arrived at the camp, mud was everywhere. It was on the ground, in the tent, on the kids, in the Caugherty’s house, and everywhere else. It had been raining steadily for the first two days of the camp. But persevering, the campers, the staff, and the Caughertys did not let the weather dampen their spirits. They continued on with worship, with Bible classes, with water slides, with mounds of food, and with the work of the ministry.
That night, I spoke from the passage in Mark 1.15 where Jesus said, “…repent ye, and believe the gospel.” Mark 1:15, KJV. I shared my testimony about believing the Gospel at the age of nine in a Baptist church in Illinois, but as I told them, my life didn’t really change until I repented of my sins and received Jesus as Lord of my life at the age of 27. Real salvation, I said, required repentance and allowing Jesus to rule your life. That night, 14 young people made first-time decisions to follow Jesus Christ as Lord, not just during camp, but every day of their lives. The next day I spoke to the youth and children about becoming fishers of men. With fishing gear in hand, I taught about two fishing methods—nets (mass evangelism) and hook and line (personal evangelism). Then I gave them fishing tips on how to reach their friends and families for Christ.
Each year, a host of kids are saved, baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit at Kids at the Point Youth Camp. Many of these young people are from families that seldom if ever attend church, or who go to churches that do not preach the new birth. Each year, the Caughertys and their church work to improve the program and facilities. This year Pastor Chris built a second bunkhouse for the kids that come from outside of the area. We thank God for faithful local churches like this that are finding ways to reach people with the Good News of Jesus Christ.
We also received this report from the Caughertys, “We are hearing more reports of kids getting saved during camp. Melodee led a couple of boys to the Lord over noon lunch one day. Many kids rededicated their lives to the Lord this year. Thanks again for your ministry and your prayers.”
