40 Years Later & the Seeds are Still Multiplying
Forty years ago, Susan and I began our ministry in the Twin Valley-Gary area of northwest Minnesota, and we now see that the seeds that we planted all those years ago are still growing and multiplying. Last month, I was at Good News Fellowship Church in Gary with the people who were a part of our ministry beginning in 1983.
As the Scripture says: “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, and day and night will not cease.” (Genesis 8:22, MEV)
There are seasons of planting, watering, growing, and harvesting, cycles of life that God ordained to bring forth the fruit of the earth. So often, we don’t realize the lasting effects of the seeds that we plant, but later, we can see the fruit of our labor and rejoice in what God has done.
Early on a Sunday morning, I traveled with Pastor Norm Guillingsrud of Good News Fellowship to Ada, Minnesota, where we did a live radio program simulcast on KRJB Ada and KRJM Mahnomen, covering a huge swath of territory in eastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota as well as across the world through the internet.
Pastor Norm was one of those who was part of our ministry from the start in Twin Valley, Minnesota, 40 years ago. Now, he is pastoring the church in Gary and has been on the radio in Ada and Mahnomen for 27 years. Do you see what I mean about the seed multiplying?
I shared a message with the listeners from John 14 about how Jesus has made the way for us not only to go to heaven when we die but also to have heaven come down into our lives while we are here. Jesus told us that He would not leave us like orphans but that He would come to us by the Holy Spirit and comfort, strengthen, and help us.
After the broadcast, we quickly drove back to Pastor Norm and Lori Gullingsrud’s home east of Gary for a Facebook Live Video. This is Norm’s normal Sunday morning routine—radio, Facebook, and then church. I spoke to the Facebook audience, which was nearly 300 people, on “You Must Be Born Again.” I had great liberty to preach the Gospel and lead the people in a prayer of salvation.
Then we traveled to Gary (population 225) for the Good News Fellowship Church service. There was a nice crowd with some visitors. The worship leader, Kathy Andersen, did not know the subject of my sermon, but she selected songs that lined up perfectly with the message about the power of the Holy Spirit. I spoke of the mighty power of God that was manifested in the early church, which God is still releasing today to those who believe. Three people made decisions for the Lord. One of them indicated that it was a first-time decision. Then, as their hearts were moved, nearly the entire congregation came forward to ask for a greater release of the Holy Spirit in their lives.
On Sunday night, the ladies of the church prepared a delicious meal, which was followed by the evening service. During the meeting, I continued to speak about the power of God. I shared about the mighty acts of God from the Bible and also in church history, such as in the lives of Charles Finney and D.L. Moody and the Herrnhut Revival in Germany. These are all cases where God brought powerful transformation in the earth as people yielded themselves to the Holy Spirit.
God is encouraging us that He will bring revival again! As we seek the Lord in these days, we will once again see the hand of God which will bring a bountiful season of harvest. The ground must be broken up. The seed of the Word of God must be planted. It must then be watered by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Then we will see the harvest of souls that we all desire.
Thank you for being a part of this ministry. Wherever we minister, we think of you and are very aware of the value of your partnership with us. Your prayers, financial support, and encouragement keep us going with the Gospel. Then, as we pray for you, a cycle is completed, and the heavenly power of God is once again being released. We pray for Almighty God to continue to bring a strong work of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God into your life, your family, and your ministry. Keep going with Jesus!
